Former NBA star Chandler Parsons doesn’t believe Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is going to get much better than he already is.
Parsons thinks Reaves may have already reached his ceiling.
Reaves re-signed with the Lakers on a four-year, $56.3 million contract in restricted free agency in the offseason. The 25-year-old averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season while shooting 52.9% from the field, 39.8% from beyond the arc and 86.4% from the free-throw line.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Austin Reaves, Chandler Parsons, Los Angeles Lakers Updates
Reaves took his game to another level in the 2023 postseason, averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 16 games versus the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets. However, he has gotten off to a rough start in 2023-24.
Reaves is averaging only 9.7 points through the Lakers’ first three games of this season while shooting 30.0% overall, 25.0% from 3 and 72.7% from the foul line. Los Angeles is 1-2 and Reaves has recorded a negative plus-minus rating in all three games.
Reaves played for Team USA in the summer in the FIBA World Cup. Maybe the Arkansas product needs some rest to get his legs back to full strength. Most of Reaves’ jump shots this season have been short.
The Lakers lost to the Nuggets on opening night, beat the Phoenix Suns in Game 2 and fell to the Sacramento Kings in Game 3. Thus far, Los Angeles has not looked like a championship contender, but we are only three games into the season. The Lakers and Reaves still have a lot of time to get on track.

However, Parsons doesn’t expect Reaves to be an All-Star-type player for the Lakers.
