For the first time in his NBA career, Golden State Warriors point guard Chris Paul came off the bench versus the Houston Rockets on October 30. The future Hall of Famer played 27 minutes against the Rockets and finished with eight points and seven assists while shooting 3-of-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
“It’s whatever I’ve got to do to help our team win,” Paul said. “So if that means this, if it means not finishing some games or whatnot, you know, if you get a chance to play long enough in your career, there’s things that’s going to change, there’s things that’s going to be different and I’m here.”
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors Updates
The Warriors defeated the Rockets by 11 points to improve to 2-1 on the young season. Paul had a plus-minus of +22.
“It was definitely different,” Paul said of coming off the bench. “But at the end of the day, it’s basketball.”
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Paul’s selflessness to come off the bench for the first time ever. The four-time champion believes Paul’s attitude is a tone-setter for the team.
“It’s massive the way Chris has embraced everything,” Kerr said. “He just nodded his head and said, ‘Let’s go get ’em.’ Not ever a big deal. When a vet, great player, All-Star shows that kind of sacrifice, it just sets the tone for the whole team.”
