NBA Insider ‘Puzzled’ About Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks Extension

Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a three-year, $186 million extension with the Milwaukee Bucks and one NBA insider was “puzzled” by the move.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN thinks Antetokounmpo’s decision to sign his extension with the Bucks now was “questionable.”

Antetokounmpo could have signed an extension with the Bucks next offseason. He didn’t have to sign one now. However, the NBA superstar was ready to commit to Milwaukee after the Damian Lillard trade.

Antetokounmpo has career averages of 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists with the Bucks. He has won the Most Improved Player of the Year Award, two regular-season MVPs, one Finals MVP and one Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks in 63 games for the Bucks last season. He recorded 46 double-doubles and six triple-doubles. Milwaukee had the best record in the East but lost to the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs in five games.

The Bucks won the 2021 title over the Phoenix Suns in six games. The franchise signed Antetokounmpo to a five-year, $228.2 million extension in December 2020. Antetokounmpo will make $45.6 million this season.
