One of the bigger storylines heading into the start of the 2023-24 NBA regular season is how the Golden State Warriors are going to deploy veteran point guard Chris Paul. Paul was acquired over the offseason from the Washington Wizards for a package that included Jordan Poole and a first-round pick.

Coming to a team with an established point in Stephen Curry, it was anyone’s guess how Paul would be used. Head coach Steve Kerr preached that everyone would need to be on board with whatever decision was made, as some adjustments would have to occur.

For Paul, that could mean coming off the bench for the first time as a professional. He has played in 1,214 regular season games and 149 postseason games, starting all of them. But, sounds like it will change with the Warriors.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors Updates

On Run It Back on FanDuel TV, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium provided some information on what Paul’s role will be with the team. From what he has gathered, a bench role seems to be in his future.

“I think there is a level of momentum of [CP3] coming off the bench,” Charania said on the show. He added that Paul is willing to play whatever role is needed for him and the Warriors to find as much success as possible.

There has been some speculation that Paul could be inserted into the starting lineup for Draymond Green, who will miss the season opener against the Phoenix Suns. But, Charania added that Kerr could look to use some more size in place of Green, meaning Jonathan Kuminga could get the starting nod.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors Updates

When healthy, the Warriors have a good thing going with Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Green and Kevon Looney as the starting five. It will be interesting to see how Paul adjusts to what will be a brand-new role this season.

Paul will provide the team with another elite ball-handler and lead playmaker, taking some of the onus off of Curry. The two veterans should see the court for stretches together, but it likely won’t be in the starting lineup.
