The New York Knicks are the one team in the NBA that looks prime to make a blockbuster trade during the 2023-24 campaign. This is a team that has climbed out of the doldrums and become relevant in recent years once again with last season’s trip to the second round solidifying their standing.

The Knicks look like they can be one of the best teams in the NBA. They have chemistry and cohesion not many other franchises possess, bringing back nearly their entire rotation and roster from last season.

If there is one thing that this roster is lacking, it is a bonafide superstar. Point guard Jalen Brunson is one of the best players at his position in the NBA and is trending toward being an All-Star. Julius Randle has multiple All-NBA Team nominations and All-Star appearances.

RJ Barrett is on the cusp of being that third big-time player coming off a strong postseason and excellent performance this summer with Team Canada. If a true star becomes available, the Knicks will be in a position to strike a deal.

Could that star be reigning MVP, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers? According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Knicks are prepared to make a very strong offer should the situation with James Harden go south and Embiid looks to be moved.

According to sources who spoke to Pompey, the Knicks would be willing to offer a package around three players from the group of Barrett, Randle, Evan Fournier and Mitchell Robinson. Two or three first-round picks would also be included with the trio of players.

That would be a monster offer from the Knicks, while still leaving them some assets to potentially swing another deal. Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Hartenstein and eventually Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo could be used to make another package. Depending on which draft picks are included, New York could have anywhere between 3-5 first-rounders available to move as well.

Even if no other deal was made, one of Barrett and Randle joining a lineup that includes Embiid, Brunson, Grimes, Quickley, Hart, DiVincenzo and Hartenstein has the makings of a true contender in the Eastern Conference. A little more front-court depth, specifically at power forward if Randle is moved, and the Knicks would be in business.
