Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has been predicted to make his first All-Star Team this season by an NBA writer. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report wrote about why he thinks Maxey will be an All-Star in 2024.

“A 25-plus-point scoring average may not guarantee Maxey an All-Star spot—Trae Young averaged 26.2 last season and didn’t make the cut—but that isn’t the only area he can improve,” Buckley wrote. “Physically, he should be a better defender than he’s been, and he could become a much more impactful playmaker with a more decisive approach. He looks like a good enough decision-maker (career 3.3 assists against 1.1 turnovers) to handle the extra ball-handling responsibilities he’d surely get on the post-Harden Sixers.”

Maxey averaged 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the Sixers last season while shooting 48.1% from the field, 43.4% from beyond the arc and 84.5% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers Updates

The Sixers opted not to sign Maxey to a rookie-scale extension this offseason, so the talented guard will become a restricted free agent next offseason. During an interview with Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Maxey talked about his contract status.

“It can be tough. It can be, you know, when you have expectations. But you’re not obligated to anything. I understand it’s the business aspect of it,” Maxey told Yahoo Sports. “I just look at it as I’m gonna go out there and still play. I’m still on the 76ers. I love it here and I want to help us win. And at the end of the day, that’s my contract and that’s what I’ll fulfill. I love Philly. And we’ll see what happens.”

Maxey has career NBA averages of 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2020 draft and has turned into a fan favorite in Philadelphia.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers Updates

James Harden has requested a trade from the Sixers. Assuming Philadelphia moves Harden, Maxey’s usage rate is set to skyrocket this season.
