One NBA writer is proposing that the Miami Heat acquire Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones in a bold deal. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Heat and Wizards:
The Washington Wizards trade Tyus Jones to the Miami Heat for Duncan Robinson, a 2026 second-round pick (via LAL) and a 2027 first-round pick (top-seven protected)
Jones averaged 10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists for the Memphis Grizzlies last season while shooting 43.8% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line. The Duke product was traded by the Grizzlies to the Wizards in the offseason.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyus Jones, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat Updates
The 27-year-old Jones has career NBA averages of 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Grizzlies.
The Heat missed out on Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday this offseason. Jones isn’t a star like Lillard and Holiday, but he’s a quality floor general who has a rapport with Miami All-Star small forward Jimmy Butler, as the two were teammates on the Timberwolves.
Jones is one of the best passers in the NBA. He has 2,108 assists and only 400 turnovers in 535 games in his career.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyus Jones, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat Updates
The Heat, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals in five games, could start Jones, Tyler Herro, Butler, Kevin Love and Bam Adebayo if Miami’s front office figured out a way to acquire Jones from Washington.
The Wizards are in rebuild mode after trading Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, so they could be open to moving Jones for the right price.
