Memphis Grizzlies starting center Steven Adams will miss the entire 2023-24 NBA season after undergoing surgery on his right posterior cruciate ligament.

Adams is expected to make a full recovery ahead of next season.

Adams only played in 42 games last season due to a right knee injury. The big man averaged 8.6 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 59.7% from the field. Adams recorded 15 double-doubles.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Steven Adams, Memphis Grizzlies Updates

The Grizzlies, who missed Adams’ size against Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis in the 2023 playoffs, went 28-14 with Adams in the lineup during the 2022-23 regular season. This is a huge loss for Memphis, who will be without superstar point guard Ja Morant for the first 25 games due to a suspension.

Adams is averaging 7.5 points and 10.6 rebounds in 118 games with the Grizzlies. The 30-year-old signed a two-year, $25.2 million extension with Memphis in October 2022.

The Grizzlies were expected to start Adams alongside reigning Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. in the frontcourt. Memphis may need to sign a big man now that Adams is out.

The Grizzlies lost to the Lakers in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. The franchise parted ways with Dillon Brooks and acquired Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics. Memphis also signed Derrick Rose in free agency.

Rose, Smart, Desmond Bane, Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman could be the Grizzlies’ starting lineup on opening night versus the New Orleans Pelicans.
