One NBA writer is proposing that the Cleveland Cavaliers trade for Brooklyn Nets small forward Dorian Finney-Smith in a new bold deal. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Cavaliers and Nets:
The Cleveland Cavaliers trade Isaac Okoro, Dean Wade, a 2025 second-round pick (via MIL), a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick (via DEN) to the Brooklyn Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith
Finney-Smith played in 66 games for the Dallas Mavericks and Nets last season. Brooklyn acquired Finney-Smith from Dallas in the Kyrie Irving trade. Finney-Smith averaged 8.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the Mavericks and Nets while shooting 39.1% from the field, 33.7% from beyond the arc and 76.3% from the free-throw line.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Dorian Finney-Smith, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers Updates
The 30-year-old Finney-Smith has career NBA averages of 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists with the Mavericks and Nets. He will make $13.4 million this season.
The Cavaliers won 51 games last season but lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games. Buckley believes Finney-Smith can help Cleveland on both ends of the court.
“The 30-year-old has enough quickness, length and strength to ace most defensive assignments thrown his way, and despite a shaky shooting effort in 2022-23, he still boasts a 37.7 percent perimeter connection rate over the past four campaigns combined,” Buckley wrote in his NBA trade column.”

The Cavaliers could start Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Finney-Smith, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen if Cleveland’s front office figured out a way to acquire Finney-Smith from Brooklyn.
