NBA insider Chris Broussard is reporting that Joel Embiid wants to leave the Philadelphia 76ers and play for the New York Knicks.
Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Embiidâs agent when he was running CAA. Multiple people around the NBA believe the Knicks would have an advantage in Embiid trade talks because of that.

Embiid signed a four-year, $210 million contract extension in 2021 with the Sixers. The Knicks are âkeeping an eyeâ on Embiidâs future, according to NBA insider Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, in the wake of James Harden asking for a trade.
Embiid, who won the NBA MVP Award last season, averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds for the Sixers while shooting 54.8% from the floor, 33.0% from 3 and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Philadelphia swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the 2023 playoffs but lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in seven games. The Sixers havenât gotten past the second round of the postseason in the Embiid era, which began in 2014-15.
Many NBA pundits are surprised Rose hasnât made a blockbuster trade yet given all of his connections through CAA. It will be fascinating to see if the Knicks make a franchise-altering trade for Embiid down the line.
A six-time All-Star, Embiid has career NBA averages of 27.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 blocks. He has made five All-NBA teams and three All-Defensive teams and has won two scoring titles. Embiid will go down as one of the greatest players of all time, but winning a title could make him an NBA legend.

The Knicks, who lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games, have several draft picks the Sixers would likely ask for if Embiid requested a trade to New York.
