Former Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo told NBA reporters on October 20 that he’s excited to watch Jrue Holiday this season. Rondo and Holiday were teammates for one season on the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017-18 and two guards developed a close relationship.

“Well, they’re pretty impressive obviously like everyone thinks on paper,” Rondo said about the Celtics. “But I love the Jrue Holiday pick-up. He’s one of my favorite teammates I’ve ever played with all-time and I’m excited for you guys to see what he can bring night in, night out.”

The Celtics, who acquired Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers, are expected to start Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis this season. Several NBA scouts who spoke to NBA Analysis Network believe Boston has the best starting lineup in the league.

Holiday, who helped the Bucks win the 2021 championship over the Phoenix Suns in six games, averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 67 games for Milwaukee last season. The two-time All-Star shot 47.9% from the field, 38.4% from beyond the arc and 85.9% from the free-throw line. Holiday is wearing No. 4 with the Celtics.

“Just his mentality, his mindset, his professional approach to the game, and just what he brings out there on the court,” Rondo said of Holiday. “He does a lot of intangibles, he’s a very unselfish guy, and he’s fun to be around. But he’s a winner. He’s a competitor.”

The 33-year-old Holiday has career averages of 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, Pelicans and Bucks. He has made five All-Defensive teams.
