Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Gives ‘Very Honest’ Reaction To Playing With Damian Lillard

Milwaukee Bucks superstars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard played their first game together as teammates on October 15 versus the Los Angeles Lakers. The two NBA legends combined for 30 points.

“I’ll be very honest, I’ve never been this open,” Antetokounmpo said about playing with Lillard. “And first of all, I’ve never seen anybody being double-teamed from the first possession of the game.”

Antetokounmpo put up 16 points, eight rebounds and one assist versus the Lakers, while Lillard finished with 14 points, two rebounds and three assists.

“I learned so much from him,” Antetokounmpo said of Lillard. “He knows how to play this game. He puts himself in position to be successful. He helps us and puts me in position to be successful.”

Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season for the Portland Trail Blazers, while Antetokounmpo put up 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. Many people around the NBA believe the Bucks will win the championship this season since they have a lethal Big 3 of Antetokounmpo, Lillard and Khris Middleton.

Once Lillard was convinced that joining the Miami Heat was virtually impossible, he became open to the prospect of playing for the Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. The Blazers traded Lillard to the Bucks in a three-team deal that sent Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, a 2029 first-round Bucks pick and two Bucks pick swaps in 2028 and 2030 to Portland. Meanwhile, Jusuf Nurkic, Nassir Little, Keon Johnson and Grayson Allen were traded to the Phoenix Suns and the Blazers rerouted Holiday to the Boston Celtics.
