Bucks’ Damian Lillard Speaks On Playing With ‘Dominant’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard played their first game together as teammates on October 15 versus the Los Angeles Lakers. The two NBA legends combined for 30 points.

“Having another guy out there that’s just dominant. He can dominate a game and win you a game,” Lillard said about playing with Antetokounmpo. “First couple plays, they blitz me, they trap me and the guy that I’m releasing the ball to is Giannis. So I’m just like, ‘Uh, we can do this all night.’ You know what I mean?” 

Antetokounmpo put up 16 points, eight rebounds and one assist versus the Lakers, while Lillard finished with 14 points, two rebounds and three assists.

“I’ll be very honest, I’ve never been this open,” Antetokounmpo said about playing with Lillard. “And first of all, I’ve never seen anybody being double-teamed from the first possession of the game.”

Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season for the Portland Trail Blazers, while Antetokounmpo put up 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. Many people around the NBA believe the Bucks will win the championship this season since they have a lethal Big 3 of Antetokounmpo, Lillard and Khris Middleton.

Lillard has career averages of 25.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists. He is looking to win his first championship with the Bucks, who defeated the Phoenix Suns in the 2021 Finals in six games. Antetokounmpo, who won the 2021 Finals MVP Award, has career averages of 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 blocks.

Both Lillard and Antetokounmpo were voted to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. It will be interesting to see if the Bucks win the title this season.
