The New York Knicks are monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid and Donovan Mitchell as trade targets, according to NBA insider Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News. Of those three, the most feasible in-season deal would be for Towns.

Towns averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The three-time NBA All-Star signed a four-year, $224.2 million designated veteran player extension with the Timberwolves in July 2022.

Embiid averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds last season for the Philadelphia 76ers. The MVP signed a four-year, $210 million contract extension in 2021.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell, New York Knicks Updates

Knicks president Leon Rose used to represent Embiid and Towns when he was with CAA, so many people around the NBA believe New York could make a push for Embiid or Towns.

Mitchell thought he was going to get traded to the Knicks last offseason. However, the All-Star shooting guard got dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers instead. New York and Cleveland met in the first round of the 2023 playoffs and the Knicks beat Mitchell and the Cavaliers in five games.

Mitchell was born and raised in New York. Two of his friends, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, play for the Knicks. If the Cavaliers don’t advance past the first round of the playoffs this season, don’t be surprised if the Mitchell-to-Knicks rumors heat up once again.

Mitchell is one of the best players in the NBA. He averaged 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season for the Cavaliers in 68 games. In November 2020, Mitchell signed a five-year, $163 million rookie-scale extension with the Utah Jazz.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell, New York Knicks Updates

The Knicks lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games. Several NBA pundits are surprised Rose hasn’t made a trade yet given all of his connections through CAA. It will be fascinating to see if New York makes a blockbuster trade this season.
