Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said at media day that Steve Kerr bashed him during his workout with the Golden State Warriors in 2020. The Warriors had the second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and Kerr told Edwards that he “wasn’t working hard enough.”
“I thought I was working hard,” Edwards said at Timberwolves media day on Thursday. “When he came, I was going through drills and he kept stopping them, like, ‘That’s all you got? That’s all you got?’ And I’m like, ‘Bruh, I’m going hard as you want me to go. What you want me to do? I’m sweating crazy.'”
Edwards joined Kerr and Bob Myers, then the Warriors team president, for dinner after his workout and Kerr told Edwards that if Golden State had the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, they would not have drafted him.

“He’s like, ‘Man, you’ve got to see Steph, KD and Klay work out,” Edwards said. “They still was continuously telling me, ‘You didn’t work hard enough. If we had the No. 1 pick, we wouldn’t take you.’ And I was just like, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.'”
The Timberwolves drafted Edwards with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Atlanta native is averaging 21.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the NBA. Edwards put up a career-high 24.6 points per game last season. He made the All-Star team and helped the Timberwolves make the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Minnesota and Edwards agreed to a five-year maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million this summer. Edwards would have become a restricted free agent next offseason if the Timberwolves didn’t sign him to an extension. The franchise was never going to let that happen.
