One NBA writer is proposing that the Dallas Mavericks acquire D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura from the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster proposal. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Lakers:

The Deal: Los Angeles Lakers trade D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and a 2029 first-round pick to Dallas Mavericks for Kyrie Irving

“Hachimura can help on that front as a floor-spacer and multipositional defender,” Bailey wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “And Russell can give at least some percentage of what Kyrie does on offense. With him as a shooter and secondary creator playing off Luka, Dallas’ attack will be hard to stop. Perhaps more importantly, though, the Mavs would have more trade fodder after this move (including that pick) to go out and get a star to pair with Dončić.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks Updates

Russell appeared in 71 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lakers last season. He averaged 17.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists while shooting 46.9% from the field, 39.6% from beyond the arc and 82.9% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, Hachimura played for the Washington Wizards and Lakers in 2022-23. The forward averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 63 games while shooting 48.6% overall, 31.9% from 3 and 73.9% from the foul line.

The Lakers re-signed Russell and Hachimura this offseason in free agency. However, as long as LeBron James is on the Lakers, Kyrie Irving will be heavily linked to the purple and gold.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks Updates

The Mavericks won just 38 games in 2022-23. The team was only 5-11 in games Luka Doncic and Irving played together. That was the worst winning percentage (.313) for a pair of teammates who were both All-Stars since the ABA-NBA merger in 1976-77, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, which is why many people around the NBA don’t believe Irving will last in Dallas.
