One NBA writer is proposing that the Golden State Warriors trade for Brooklyn Nets small forward Dorian Finney-Smith in a blockbuster deal. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Warriors and Nets:

Golden State Warriors receive: Dorian Finney-Smith

Brooklyn Nets receive: Jonathan Kuminga and Gary Payton II

“Golden State wouldn’t have the same reservations with Finney-Smith, who’s exactly the kind of shape-shifting defender this group needs more of,” Buckley wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Outside of a shooting slump this past season—33.7 percent from distance, 38.9 percent the three seasons prior—he has established himself as one of the top three-and-D role players around.

“His defensive versatility and ability to space the floor could earn him nearly 30 minutes per night in Golden State. That’s almost certainly more floor time than the Warriors would expect to squeeze out of Payton, a brilliant defender with major offensive limitations, and Kuminga, whose growing pains have proved more than the Dubs are willing to take.”

Finney-Smith played for the Dallas Mavericks and Nets last season. The Mavericks traded the swingman to the Nets in the Kyrie Irving trade. Finney-Smith averaged 8.3 points, 4.8 boards and 1.5 assists in 66 games in 2022-23 while shooting 39.1% overall, 33.7% from 3 and 76.3% from the foul line.

The 30-year-old Finney-Smith has career NBA averages of 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists with the Mavericks and Nets. He is slated to make $13.4 million next season.
