In all likelihood, Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics is due for a different team. It’s being reported that he’s angry with the organization. Meanwhile, it had already been reported that the Celtics were concerned with Brogdon’s health. This is a matter of when – not if.
What should Boston be seeking in return? It’s hard to say – after all, it’s hard to say how he’s going to look this season. With that said, they could stand to bolster their frontcourt depth. Could they do so by sending Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers?

The Clippers are one of those teams. They’ve got the talent. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are one of the best duos in the NBA. They also have a deep roster full of quality role players. Unfortunately, they’ve also got problems. The Clippers are extremely injury-prone – and their two best players are the most likely to get hurt out of anyone.

What should they do? It’s not an easy call to make. The Clippers could justify moving Leonard and George to start rebuilding. They could also justify staying the course. If they’d prefer to go that route, should they make a move for Brogdon?
Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal
The Clippers have one of the deepest forward rotations in the NBA. They’ve got a solid platoon of big men between Ivica Zubac and Mason Plumlee. With that said, they could use some depth in their backcourt. The Clippers’ guard rotation is a little bit thin.
Sure, Russell Westbrook looked good in this year’s playoffs. Do you trust him to run point full-time for a contender at this stage of his career? Meanwhile, Terrance Mann is talented, but he’s not someone who can run an offense. Brogdon is.

That’s why the Clippers should be interested in him. Sure, he may be an injury risk – that’s why the Clippers are getting him for a low price here. If he can stay healthy, this will be a steal – and the Clippers should benefit tremendously as a result. Should the Celtics give him up?
Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
If Brogdon wants out of Boston, that’s reason enough to move him. This team needs harmony in their locker room. If Brogdon wants to be somewhere else, Boston should send him elsewhere. The only question is whether this is an acceptable return for him.
We think it is. With Grant Williams having departed in free agency this summer, the Celtics could use a 3-and-D forward. Someone with some toughness would be useful too. Here, they’re getting two players who fit that description. Morris and Covington would both be useful in this team’s rotation.

Yes, this deal leaves the Celtics with a thin backcourt. Still, they could increase Payton Pritchard’s role. Meanwhile, they’ll still have Derrick White on the roster. If Brogdon truly wants out, this is a good return for him. If – or when – the Celtics move him, they should seek a package like this one.
