One NBA writer is proposing that the Charlotte Hornets acquire Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes and Jaden Hardy from the Dallas Mavericks in a bold trade. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Hornets and Mavericks:

“If Hardy maxes out his potential, he might be that springboard,” Buckley wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “He is an effortless point-producer who impressed in limited action as a rookie. He not only pumped in 21.4 points per 36 minutes last season, but he did so while shooting 43.8 percent overall, 40.4 percent from deep and 82.3 percent from the free-throw line. If he ascended to building-block status in Buzz City, this club might be assembling a strong foundation for the future. The Hornets already have a 22-year-old star in LaMelo Ball, plus a whole heap of upside from the likes of Brandon Miller, Nick Smith Jr., Mark Williams and P.J. Washington.
“Hardaway and Holmes would be included here for salary-matching purposes, but they’re serviceable role players if Charlotte felt the need to compete while they’re still in town.”

The Hornets won only 27 games last season. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2016. Charlotte drafted Brandon Miller out of Alabama with the second overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. LaMelo Ball also signed a five-year, $205 million extension with the Hornets this offseason.
Hardaway Jr. appeared in 71 games for the Mavericks last season. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 40.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 77.0% from the free-throw line.
Holmes played for the Sacramento Kings in 2022-23. He averaged 3.1 points 1.9 rebounds in 42 games while shooting 61.8% overall. The Kings traded Holmes to the Mavericks this offseason.

Finally, Hardy appeared in 48 games for the Mavericks last season. The youngster averaged 8.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 43.8% from the floor, 40.4% from 3 and 82.3% from the foul line.
