Wizards Re-Sign Taj Gibson To One Year Deal

The Washington Wizards are re-signing veteran power forward Taj Gibson, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Gibson is signing a one-year, $3.2 million contract.

Gibson appeared in 49 games for the Wizards last season. He averaged 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 52.0% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 71.4% from the free-throw line. Washington went 21-28 with Gibson in the lineup.

The 38-year-old Gibson has career averages of 8.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 945 games with the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Wizards. He has been in the NBA since 2009-10.

The Wizards won only 35 games last season. They made some major moves this offseason, trading Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns and Kristaps Porzingis to the Boston Celtics. The Wizards acquired Chris Paul in the Beal trade and traded the future Hall of Famer to the Golden State Warriors for Jordan Poole.

Washington also re-signed Kyle Kuzma to a four-year, $90 million contract. Kuzma averaged 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season in 64 games while shooting 44.8% overall, 33.3% from 3-point land and 73.0% from the foul line.

Poole signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Warriors in October 2022. The extension kicks in next season. The shooting guard averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Dubs last season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line.
