The Los Angeles Lakers just secured another key part of their roster for the long term. Jarred Vanderbilt signed a massive contract extension with the team ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.
The extension is worth $48 million over four years according to Shams Charania of the Athletic, with the fourth being a player option. Klutch Sports agency headed by Rich Paul was able to secure the deal with the franchise for the 24 year-old power forward. It is the same agency that represents LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Lakers.
Last season, Vanderbilt averaged 7 points, nearly 7 rebounds and 1 steal in the 24 games he started. He came over from the Jazz on a three-way trade that involved getting rid of Russell Westbrook who took up a lot of cap space at the time.

Vanderbilt’s defense is what the Lakers need most. Standing at 6’9, he is able to defend the 1-4 positions on the opposing team on any given night. In his young career, he has a career high of 4 blocks as a member of the Timberwolves in 2021. He also boasts a high of 19 rebounds in a game in his time with Minnesota. Two areas where the Lakers struggled last season.
The Lakers look to take advantage of what is left of the All-Star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Securing the young forward is one step forward to adding to the illustrious history of the Lakers franchise. They look to compete for a championship and they seemingly are an instant favorite to make it out of the Western Conference.
