One NBA writer is proposing that the Philadelphia 76ers trade James Harden back to the Brooklyn Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Thomas. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following blockbuster trade idea between the Sixers and Nets:

Trade idea: Philadelphia 76ers trade James Harden to Brooklyn Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, Cam Thomas and a 2025 first-round pick (via PHO)

“If Philadelphia wants to end the Harden drama, this could be one way to do it,” Buckley wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “While no stars would come back to the Sixers, they would add two solid starters in Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith, plus two long-term assets in Thomas and the future first-rounder. Then they could either try chasing a title behind the Embiid-Tyrese Maxey duo or pool the rest of their resources into getting Embiid a more established co-star.”

Harden has requested a trade from the Sixers and wants to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. However, Philadelphia doesn’t have to honor Harden’s trade request since the 2017-18 NBA MVP doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

The Nets traded Harden to the Sixers during the 2021-22 season. Harden has requested trades from the Houston Rockets, Nets and Sixers.

The Sixers agreed to search out a trade upon Harden’s request after the talented guard picked up his $35.6 million player option for next season in June. However, Philadelphia’s asking price for Harden was steep and no teams were willing or able to meet it.

In 58 games for the Sixers last season, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field, 38.5% from 3 and 86.7% from the free-throw line. He led the NBA in assists per game for the second time in his career.

Harden was fined $100,000 by the NBA for calling Sixers president Daryl Morey “a liar” during his Adidas tour in China. Harden no longer has a relationship with Morey. The 10-time All-Star called the exec a liar since he wasn’t traded quickly after opting into his 2023-24 player option.
