The Denver Nuggets were your 2022-23 NBA champions. Will they establish a dynasty? Time will tell. With that said, if they want to, they should look to the Golden State Warriors as a guide.

After all, the Warriors have been the defining dynasty of this generation. With that said, there’s been a unique aspect to this team’s run that the Nuggets may not attempt to emulate. In the few seasons over the last decade that the Warriors weren’t in title contention, they’ve tanked. As a result, they’ve got some high draft picks on this roster.

How has that worked out for them? Well, it hasn’t exactly deterred the Warriors – they just keep on contending/ With that said, they have struggled to find ample playing time for some of the younger players on their roster. Could they send Moses Moody to the Nuggets as a result?

The Trade Proposal

Golden State Warriors Receive: F/C Zeke Nnaji, 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – DEN)
Denver Nuggets Receive: G/F Moses Moody

With that said, there are unavoidable pitfalls in building a dynasty. For example, a dynastic roster will typically become unaffordable over time. As a result, championship teams can lose good players. This summer, the Denver Nuggets learned that lesson the hard way.

Surely, they’d have preferred to keep Bruce Brown. His Swiss army knife skillset was vital to their title run. With that said, the Indiana Pacers offered him a deal that he couldn’t refuse – and the Nuggets couldn’t match. Time will tell how his absence hurts them this season.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have seen this play out as well. This summer, they were forced to flip Jordan Poole for Chris Paul’s expiring contract. Did the Warriors have several reasons to trade Poole? Yes. Still, we’ve got to assume that financial factors came into play. Should they trade Moody next?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

The Warriors don’t have to trade Moody. They’ve got options. They could unleash him this year and give him a bigger role. Moody is a polished prospect – he should be ready to help. Alternatively, they could simply keep him on the bench and hope to negotiate a contract when he hits restricted free agency next summer.

Sure. Let’s say that they do increase Moody’s usage. Suddenly, they won’t be able to afford him next summer. Now, let’s say that they keep him on the bench. Chances are, they’ll build up bad will with a talented young player. It may be in the interest of both parties for the Warriors to simply move on.

If they agree, this is a good return. Nnaji is a solid young player in his own right. The Warriors could use a stretch big man like him. Throw in a future pick swap, and the Warriors should be willing to move Moody at this price. Should the Nuggets acquire him?

Why The Denver Nuggets Do The Deal

Largely, we’re looking to replace Brown here. Will Moody be able to replicate the veteran’s production? Not precisely. Still, he is a comparable player – Moody could make up some of Brown’s impact next season.

After all, he’s a versatile player in his own right. Moody can shoot, defend, and pass. His well-rounded skillset should be helpful for the Nuggets next year. Moreover, unlike the Warriors, they can afford his next contract.

It’s not as if it’s going to be a backbreaker. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are in the advantageous position of having some key players on rookie extensions. They’re not in the same position as a Warriors team that’s stacked with veterans on expensive deals. After all, the Nuggets haven’t built a dynasty – yet.
