One NBA writer is proposing that the Minnesota Timberwolves acquire Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey from the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Timberwolves and Sixers:

“Tyrese Maxey is the key draw of this package, and he is obviously a young guard with high potential,” Tran wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Last season, Maxey showcased that he can be a highly efficient player, averaging 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the 76ers while shooting 43.4% from 3PT range. He should be a great fit in the backcourt with Anthony Edwards, and playing on the Timberwolves should allow him to expand his game further as a true point guard, rather than playing off of James Harden.
“Tobias Harris is on an expiring contract, but he could still contribute for the Timberwolves immediately, and would likely take the starting PF position next to Rudy Gobert. He would provide a two-way presence on the team, and his veteran experience could be useful for the young players on the team. Last season, Harris averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 38.9% from 3PT range. The team could also potentially try to re-sign him at the end of the 2023-24 season, and there’s no doubt that Harris is a role player who can play a role on a contending team.”

The Timberwolves could start Mike Conley, Maxey, Anthony Edwards, Harris and Rudy Gobert if Minnesota’s front office figured out a way to acquire Maxey and Harris. NBA insiders Tim MacMahon and Jamal Collier of ESPN think Towns is a player who has flown under the radar in free agency but could be a big storyline at the 2024 February trade deadline.
“There has been some discussion about Towns, but it shouldn’t be a surprise if that gets much louder as the trade deadline nears,” MacMahon wrote. “The face of the franchise for the Timberwolves has transitioned to Edwards, fresh off signing a new potential supermax extension. If Minnesota is going to make another major change, it would need to be by trading Towns.”
Added Collier: “Minnesota did not live up to expectations last season, and had Towns not missed such a significant portion of the campaign with an injury, there might already be more questions surrounding that roster.”
