Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley doesn’t think Anthony Edwards will finish his NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Beverley and Edwards were teammates on the Timberwolves during the 2021-22 season.

The Timberwolves drafted Edwards with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Atlanta native is averaging 21.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the NBA. Edwards put up a career-high 24.6 points per game last season. He made the All-Star team and helped the Timberwolves make the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Minnesota and Edwards agreed to a five-year maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million this summer. Edwards would have become a restricted NBA free agent next offseason if the Timberwolves didn’t sign him to an extension. The franchise was never going to let that happen.

The 22-year-old Edwards has established himself as one of the best players in the NBA. After signing his new contract, the Georgia native will likely be under pressure to lead the Timberwolves past the second round of the playoffs.

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said Edwards reminds him a lot of NBA legend Dwyane Wade. Spoelstra is one of the assistant coaches on Team USA for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Edwards is widely regarded as the best player on the team.

The Timberwolves’ last superstar, Kevin Love, requested a trade from Minnesota after six years and was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer of 2014. NBA legend Kevin Garnett also didn’t spend his entire career with the Timberwolves, as he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007.
