Lakers Acquire Bobby Portis From Bucks In Bold Trade Proposal

Bobby Portis, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, NBA Trade Rumors

One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks in a bold trade. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers and Bucks:

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Bobby Portis, Grayson Allen

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, 2024 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAL)

“Portis was a key role player for the Bucks during their 2021 championship run, and many appreciate the effort with which he plays and his passion on the court,” Tran wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “His championship experience should be a boon for the Lakers, who are trying to win next season while LeBron James and Anthony Davis still are playing at a superstar level.

“Last season, Portis averaged 14.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 37.0% from 3PT range on 3.7 attempts. The Lakers don’t really have a quality big man outside of Davis right now, and in theory, Portis can be a perfect complement to Davis on both ends of the floor as a frontcourt partner. Portis is able to guard both the PF and the C position and can take some of the pressure off of Davis on that end of the floor. On top of that, his floor spacing ability should help open things up for both Davis and James, both of whom prefer to operate near the rim.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Bobby Portis, Milwaukee Bucks & Los Angeles Lakers Updates

Portis has a close relationship with Lakers head coach Darvin Ham. The two were part of the 2021 Bucks championship team. Portis signed a four-year, $48.6 million contract with Milwaukee in July 2022. The Lakers would have to trade for the Arkansas product to get him on their roster since Portis can’t become a free agent until the summer of 2025.

Portis averaged 14.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season for the Bucks while shooting 49.6% from the floor, 37.0% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free-throw line. He has career NBA averages of 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and Bucks.

The Lakers went 43-39 in the regular season and 8-8 in the postseason in Ham’s first year as head coach. Los Angeles lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals in four games.
