Celtics Trade For Pacers’ Myles Turner In Bold Proposal

Myles Turner, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, NBA Trade Rumors

The Boston Celtics have been a successful NBA team in recent years, achieving an NBA Finals appearance and have participated in plenty of Eastern Conference Finals series since drafting Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. However, they have yet to win a title.

It’s tough to say what it will take for the Celtics to ultimately pull off a successful title run. It probably starts at the top with Tatum and Brown living up to expectations as the superstars. However, there are changes in the supporting cast that can be made to help make things easier for the two star wings.

One potential option would be to give complete five-out spacing potential with a younger option at the five spot. Kristaps Porzingis was acquired in the offseason and be effective in that role, but what if they could trade for a talent like Myles Turner to play alongside him?

The Trade Proposal

Indiana Pacers Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon, F/C Robert Williams III, G Payton Pritchard, 2024 First-Round Pick (GSW via BOS), 2027 First-Round Pick (BOS)
Boston Celtics Receive: C Myles Turner

With that said, when you’re looking at NBA trends, you need to at least glance at the most recent NBA Finals. After all, those were the two most successful teams in a given season, right? They’re likely to be trendsetters. How did this year’s Finals look?

Well, the Nuggets didn’t exactly play a twin towers model. On the other hand, Aaron Gordon is capable of playing small-ball 5 minutes. He’s not a big, but he’s not exactly a wing, either.

By contrast, the Heat went small. Bam Adebayo is among the shorter 5s in the NBA, and his running mate was typically a wing. Of course, we all saw the Nuggets use their size advantage to clinch the first championship in their franchise’s history. Should the Celtics follow their lead?

Why The Boston Celtics Do the Deal

This would be a bold move for the Celtics. They’d be fielding a much different team than they have in years past. At the same time, the team already seems to recognize the value in switching it up. The Celtics already sent out Marcus Smart to receive Porzingis. They’re obviously going for a new look.

Why not take it a step further? Turner and Porzingis can both shoot. They’re both strong rim protectors. There’s no reason this duo can’t play together.

In fact, they should make the Celtics better. With their new twin towers protecting Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and spacing the floor for them, the Celtics should be back in the running for the NBA championship. Where does this deal leave the Pacers?

Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal

If versatility is the name of the modern game, the Pacers should love this deal. Robert Williams can guard big men. He can guard wings. In a pinch, he can even guard guards. Williams III is among the most versatile defensive big men in the NBA.

When healthy, that is. Unfortunately, Williams is regularly hurt. If he wasn’t, this might be a straight swap. It isn’t. The Pacers are being compensated.

They’re receiving a pair of first-round picks and an intriguing young player in Pritchard. If Williams III can stay healthy, they could win this deal easily. Even if they’ve got Boston forming their twin towers.
