Bronny James’ cardiac arrest was caused by a congenital heart defect, a James family spokesperson said in a statement. There is confidence the youngster will make a full recovery. Bronny is the son of NBA legend and current Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

“After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest has been identified,” the statement read. “It is an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect which can and will be treated. We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.”

Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest on July 24. He is entering his freshman year at USC. LeBron, who signed a two-year extension with the Lakers last summer, told The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd in February 2022 that he would do anything to play with Bronny in the NBA. No father has played with or against his son in the NBA.

“My last year will be played with my son,” LeBron said. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

LeBron can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024 and sign with the team Bronny gets drafted by. For now, everyone in the NBA world will continue to pray for Bronny after the talented kid went through a frightening experience.

LeBron hinted at retirement after the Lakers got swept by the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. However, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer announced at the 2023 ESPY Awards that he’ll be playing next season.
