Luka Doncic has wasted no time cementing his status as one of the best players to ever wear the uniform of the Dallas Mavericks. The team made a shrewd move acquiring him during the 2018 NBA Draft, trading the draft rights to Trae Young and a 2019 first-rounder to the Atlanta Hawks.
That is a trade that the Hawks would likely want to hit the reset button on. Young has had his moments and made multiple All-Star teams. Alas, he isn’t in the same class that Doncic is as a perennial MVP candidate. Things didn’t work out with Cam Reddish either, who they used the 2019 first-round pick on.
Doncic has quickly ascended the player rankings, as there is little debate about his standing amongst his peers. The Slovenia native is one of the best players in the NBA and is only getting better as he won’t turn 25 until next February.
While he has plenty of his career ahead of him, Doncic is already one of the best players in Mavericks franchise history. According to Basketball Reference, he is already in 11th place in 11th place for Win Shares. He will almost assuredly move into the top 10 during the 2023-24 season and will continue knocking off Mavericks greats in the process.
NBA NEWS & STATS: Luka Doncic & Dallas Mavericks Updates
Should he remain in Dallas, a lot of the franchise record books are going to be re-written with his name. Doncic stuffs the stat sheets on a nightly basis as he is a walking triple-double. This past season, his efficiency reached new heights as well.
If that efficiency continues, he is going to make another major jump up in Mavericks’ history this season. If he can make 224 3-pointers, he will surpass Jason Terry for second on the team’s all-time list. Despite playing only five seasons thus far, Doncic already finds himself at No. 3 on the Mavericks’ all-time list.
