One NBA writer is proposing that the Philadelphia 76ers acquire Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans in a blockbuster trade. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Sixers and Pelicans:

New Orleans Pelicans receive: Joel Embiid, P.J. Tucker

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Brandon Ingram, Jonas Valančiūnas, Dyson Daniels, 2024 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick (via MIL), 2024 and 2026 first-round pick swaps (via MIL)

“Ingram doesn’t turn 26 until September, and he’s coming off a season in which he averaged 24.7 points, 5.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 39.0 percent from three,” Swartz wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Jonas Valančiūnas (14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds in 24.9 minutes) is a solid stopgap center to fill in for Embiid, and Daniels was the No. 8 overall pick in 2022. He brings a number of skills to the table as a 6’8” guard.

“This gives Philly a new core of Ingram, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, Valančiūnas, Daniels, De’Anthony Melton and whatever the Sixers can get for James Harden via trade, all with a restocked cupboard of draft picks.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Brandon Ingram, Philadelphia 76ers & New Orleans Pelicans Updates

Ingram signed a five-year, $158.3 million contract with the Pelicans in November 2020. The one-time NBA All-Star averaged 24.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists for the Pelicans last season while shooting 48.4% from the field, 39.0% from beyond the arc and 88.2% from the free-throw.

The Pelicans acquired Ingram from the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2019 in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade. Ingram is averaging 23.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 223 games with New Orleans. The Duke product won the 2019-20 NBA Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

The Pelicans missed the NBA playoffs this year after making it in 2022. They lost the 9-10 play-in game at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Ingram only appeared in 45 games last season, and according to NBA reporter Christian Clark of NOLA.com, Ingram’s inability to play through minor discomfort has frustrated some of his teammates.

Many people around the NBA believe Embiid will request a trade from the Sixers “sooner rather than later,” according to NBA insider Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. James Harden wants the Sixers to trade him to the Los Angeles Clippers and the 2017-18 NBA MVP called Daryl Morey a “liar” during his Adidas China tour.

If Embiid asks for a trade, perhaps the Sixers and Pelicans can do business together. Ingram has already been traded once, so he understands that anything can happen in the NBA.
