One NBA writer is proposing that the New York Knicks acquire Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster trade. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade between the Nets and Knicks:
New York Knicks Receive: Mikal Bridges
Brooklyn Nets Receive: RJ Barrett, 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2024 First-Round Pick (DAL via NYK)
“There is no doubt that the New York Knicks lacked a consistent offensive player outside of Jalen Brunson in the playoffs, and that is what ultimately doomed them against the Miami Heat,” Tran wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Mikal Bridges would help with that issue, and as of right now, he is a better offensive player than RJ Barrett. His ability to play off-ball is extremely valuable when playing with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle, and adding another top-tier scoring threat could end up making life easier for the team’s stars.
“The New York Knicks managed to get to the second round without an elite wing like Bridges: with him, they can be a legitimate force in the Eastern Conference.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Mikal Bridges, New York Knicks & Brooklyn Nets Updates
The Phoenix Suns traded Bridges to the Nets in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade last season. Bridges took his game to another level with Brooklyn, averaging 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 27 games.
Bridges signed a four-year, $90.9 million rookie scale extension with the Suns in October 2021. Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and newcomer Donte DiVincenzo are close friends with Bridges. All three players went to Villanova.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Mikal Bridges, New York Knicks & Brooklyn Nets Updates
The Knicks lost to the Miami Heat in the second round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. They could certainly compete for a championship with Bridges in the fold next to Brunson, Hart and Julius Randle.
However, the Nets have no intention of trading Bridges, multiple sources told NBA Analysis Network, so the Knicks will have to find another star to trade for.
