One NBA writer is proposing that the Miami Heat acquire Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets in a blockbuster trade. Our own James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network proposed that the Heat trade Duncan Robinson, Kevin Love and a future draft pick to the Hornets for Rozier.

“Just a short time ago, the Hornets were at the forefront of NBA rumors,” Piercey wrote in his NBA trade column. “They had the second pick in the NBA Draft. What would they do with it? The Hornets could have selected one of Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller or traded the pick for a star wing. The Hornets made their decision. They selected Brandon Miller.

“In the end, it seems that they didn’t think it would be wise to pair LaMelo Ball with a ball-dominant NBA guard like Henderson. Here’s the funny part, Ball is already paired with a ball-dominant guard. Here, we’ve got the Hornets rectifying that. They can begin to build their offense of the future around Ball and Miller. Meanwhile, the Heat get their new starting point guard in Rozier.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Terry Rozier, Charlotte Hornets & Miami Heat Updates

Rozier signed a four-year, $96 million NBA contract with the Hornets in August 2021. He’ll make $23 million next season. The 29-year-old Rozier averaged 21.1 points and 5.1 assists in 2022-23 for the Hornets while shooting 41.5% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc and 80.9% from the free-throw line.

The Heat are trying to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Blazers have not been impressed with the Heat’s offers. Rozier isn’t an NBA superstar like Lillard, but he’s an upgrade over Kyle Lowry, who averaged 11.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Heat last season.

Rozier has career NBA averages of 13.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 540 games with the Boston Celtics and Hornets. It will be fascinating to see where the Louisville product is playing next season.
