For a long time, the LA Clippers franchise was synonymous with losing. Going back to when they were the Buffalo Braves and San Diego Clippers, this was an NBA team that struggled to win games consistently.

This franchise has taken part in 54 seasons. More recently, they have become perennial contenders as owner Steve Ballmer has shown a willingness to spend money to improve the product on the court.

While the end results haven’t always been there, it certainly isn’t from a lack of trying. The Clipper put together one of the best rosters in the NBA in the last few seasons, headlined by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. However, injuries have set them back year after year as continuity and chemistry has been difficult to develop.

Despite no championships coming their way, the last 12 seasons have been the golden era of Clippers basketball. They have qualified for the postseason 10 times, advancing beyond the first round five times. That includes one trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2021 when they lost to the Phoenix Suns.

These recent seasons being the best years in the history of the franchise goes to show just how downtrodden of a team this was for a long time. Only seven other trips to the postseason occurred in 42 seasons, as the Clippers endured a ton of losing.

It wasn’t just your regular shortcomings either. The Clippers were historically bad a number of times, as they have some of the least successful seasons in basketball history. How bad were things for the franchise at one point?

The Clippers could go 82-0 in the regular season for the next eight campaigns. That is a 656-game winning streak, and they would still have a losing record all time. While they haven’t been able to break through for a championship, it is easy to see why fans are just happy to see the team being competitive and mentioned amongst the best teams in the NBA after so many dark seasons for the franchise.
