According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers have ended James Harden trade talks. Harden wants the Sixers to trade him to the Los Angeles Clippers, but no deal has materialized.
Harden’s relationship with Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey is “fractured.” Morey and Harden used to be very close since they worked together on the Houston Rockets and were reunited in Philadelphia after Morey traded for Harden from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2021-22 season.
However, Harden is extremely upset at the way in which Morey handled his possible free agency and has made his dissatisfaction clear by requesting a trade despite being friends with Sixers superstar big man Joel Embiid, who won the NBA MVP Award last season.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: James Harden, Philadelphia 76ers & Los Angeles Clippers Updates
The Sixers and Clippers haven’t made any progress on a Harden trade thus far. If Philadelphia truly doesn’t trade Harden before training camp starts, Harden is expected to report to camp, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
In 58 games for the Sixers last season, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 86.7% from the free-throw line. He led the NBA in assists per game for the second time in his career. Morey’s asking price for Harden is exorbitant. Morey is believed to be asking for a lot for Harden because he feels comfortable with the idea of Harden returning to the team next season.
