One NBA writer is proposing that the Toronto Raptors acquire De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks and Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Dallas Mavericks. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade:
Toronto Raptors Receive: De’Andre Hunter, Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber, James Bouknight, Vit Krejci, a 2029 first-round pick from Atlanta and a 2030 first-round pick swap from Atlanta
Toronto Raptors Lose: Pascal Siakam, Thaddeus Young and Otto Porter Jr.
In this proposal, the Raptors would be trading Pascal Siakam to the Hawks, Thaddeus Young to the Mavericks and Otto Porter Jr. to the Charlotte Hornets for Hunter, Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber, James Bouknight, Vit Krejci, a 2029 first-round pick from Atlanta and a 2030 first-round pick swap from Atlanta.
The Hawks drafted Hunter with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Virginia. The 25-year-old averaged 15.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists last season while shooting 46.1% from the field, 35.0% from beyond the arc and 82.6% from the free-throw line.

Hunter signed a four-year, $90 million rookie contract extension with the Hawks in October 2022. He’ll make $20.1 million next season. The Philadelphia native has career NBA averages of 13.9 points, 4.2 boards and 1.5 assists while shooting 44.4% overall, 35.6% from 3-point range and 79.9% from the free-throw line.
Hardaway Jr. signed a four-year, $75 million contract with the Mavericks in August 2021. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists last season while shooting 40.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 77.0% from the free-throw line. The Michigan product will make $17.9 million next season.
Hardaway Jr. has career NBA averages of 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists with the New York Knicks, Hawks and Mavericks.

Toronto lost the 9-10 play-in game to the Chicago Bulls and didn’t make the 2023 playoffs. Nick Nurse was fired as head coach and replaced by Darko Rajakovic.
The Raptors are open to trading Siakam for the right price since they are hesitant to offer him a max contract extension. The All-Star is eligible for a contract extension since he has one year left on his deal.
