One NBA writer is proposing that the Charlotte Hornets acquire Bogdan Bogdanovic from the Atlanta Hawks in a blockbuster trade. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade:
Charlotte Hornets Receive: Bogdan Bogdanović, Otto Porter Jr. and Christian Wood (sign-and-trade)
Charlotte Hornets Lose: Gordon Hayward, James Bouknight and Kelly Oubre Jr. (sign-and-trade)
Bogdanovic appeared in 54 games for the Hawks last season. He averaged 14.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 44.7% from the field, 40.6% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line. Among 75 NBA players to attempt as many pull-up threes, only Malcolm Brogdon, Stephen Curry and Buddy Hield drilled theirs at a higher clip than Bogdanovic did in 2022-23.

The 30-year-old Bogdanovic has career averages of 14.2 points, 3.4 boards and 3.3 assists in 370 games with the Sacramento Kings and Hawks. He signed a four-year, $68 million extension with Atlanta in March. The Hawks traded John Collins to the Utah Jazz this summer, so it will be interesting to see if they make any other trades.
“Bogdanović is a similar player to Hayward,” Bailey wrote. “But he’s two years younger and on a contract that pays about half of Hayward’s annual salary (and runs through 2026-27, assuming his team option is picked up).”

The Hornets won only 27 games last season. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2016. LaMelo Ball signed a five-year contract extension with Charlotte this summer. The extension is worth up to $260 million. Ball would have become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024 if he and the Hornets didn’t agree to an extension.
