Pacers Trade For Clippers’ Paul George In Bold Proposal

Paul George, Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Los Angeles Clippers could give real consideration to undergoing a rebuild in the near future if they continue to come up short in the NBA playoffs due to injuries. If so, trading Paul George would be a logical move to recoup some key assets.

A team on the rise looking to take a step forward could benefit from trading for George. He isn’t durable enough to be a No. 1 option at this point, but has the versatility on both ends to really elevate the unit.

There are some factors to consider when evaluating possible George trade destinations like the market and readiness to compete. However, could the Clippers send him back to the Indiana Pacers?

The Trade Proposal

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: G/F Buddy Hield, F/C Daniel Theis, G TJ McConnell, F/C Jalen Smith, 2024 First-Round Pick (IND), 2026 First-Round Pick (IND), 2028 First-Round Pick (IND)
Indiana Pacers Receive: G/F Paul George

What happened? Why don’t players stay with the team that drafted them anymore? Some will argue that it’s a lack of loyalty. They’ll say the culture around the league changed. Players aren’t as loyal to teams anymore.

Sure. Were teams ever loyal to players? That’s the inverse of the argument. Some will say that players finally woke up to reality: they’ve got to look out for themselves in the league.

As with most things, it’s likely a combination of factors. Either way, George has been on two NBA teams since he was the Pacers’ franchise player. Could they really bring him back?

Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal

It wouldn’t shock us. It feels like the Pacers want to take a step forward in 2023-24. Presumably, that’s why they’ve been linked to Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors. This team is likely looking to add a star wing to make a playoff push next season.

Arguably, George is an even better fit than Siakam. After all, the Pacers just drafted Jarace Walker and traded for Obi Toppin. Siakam overlaps with them both positionally, whereas George is a clean fit next to either.

In fact, George is a clean fit next to almost anybody. He’s one of the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA and an elite shot-creator as well. The Pacers will have a talented roster with elite floor spacing that should be set for the playoffs if they make this deal. What does it leave the Clippers with?

Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal

In immediate terms…not much. Sure, Held is an elite shooter. He’s still a tremendous downgrade from George. Meanwhile, McConnell and Theis are both decent role players, but this is a significant win-now downgrade for the Clippers.

It does improve their future outlook. Smith has flashed some potential. Still, this is mainly about receiving three unprotected first-round picks on the Clippers’ end.

How will they use them? We’re not sure. The Clippers could look to trade for a different star if Kawhi Leonard looks good upon his return. If he doesn’t, they could seek to trade him and get a fresh start. Just don’t expect him to return to the San Antonio Spurs any time soon.
