In the wake of Damian Lillard requesting a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, one NBA writer is proposing that the Denver Nuggets acquire the seven-time All-Star in a blockbuster trade.
Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World proposed that the Nuggets trade Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon to the Blazers for Lillard.
“The championship Nuggets could benefit greatly from Lillard’s presence, even if they don’t need to make any major moves,” Bitar wrote. “Lillard’s ability to create his shot, score from anywhere on the court, and perform in clutch moments would significantly enhance Denver’s offensive firepower. Playing alongside Nikola Jokic, Lillard would form a potent duo capable of dismantling opposing defenses. Lillard’s leadership and experience in the playoffs would also provide valuable mentorship to the Nuggets’ young core, including Michael Porter Jr. and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.”
The Nuggets won the 2023 NBA championship over the Miami Heat in five games. Murray and Gordon played their roles to a T and fit perfectly next to superstar Nikola Jokic. The odds of the Nuggets trading for Lillard are zero.

However, it’s fun to think about how deadly Lillard and Jokic would be as a duo. The two stars would excel in the pick-and-roll/pop game. Lillard is one of the top shooters and scorers in the NBA, while Jokic is arguably the best passer in the league and an elite finisher at the rim.
Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season for the Blazers while shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Jokic put up 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game for the Nuggets while shooting 63.2% overall. It would be nearly impossible to stop the Nuggets’ offense with Lillard and Jokic leading the charge.

Luckily for the rest of the NBA, Lillard won’t be getting traded to the Nuggets. He has requested a trade to the Heat and most people around the league believe Portland and Miami will eventually come to terms on a trade.
