Professional athletes are human beings. Their bodies can break down like anybody else’s. In fact, they’re almost more likely to break down. Sure, NBA players generally stay in great shape. That’s because they’re putting their bodies through more than most of us could even imagine.
Unfortunately, injuries can impact an athlete’s trade value. Just look at Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics. When healthy, he’s a versatile combo guard that can shoot, pass and defend.
Yet, the Celtics can’t seem to move him. Apparently, Brogdon has some kind of concerning health issue. Could the Los Angeles Clippers take a gamble on him anyway?
The Trade Proposal
Boston Celtics Receive: F/C Marcus Morris Sr., F Robert Covington
Los Angeles Clippers Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon, G Payton Pritchard
Meanwhile, it’s not only a player’s body that can impact their value – or their standing with a team. Once again: players are human beings. They have personal lives. Sometimes, they prove problematic for the teams that employ them.
On that note: what happened to Robert Covington? He seems to be having some issues in his personal life. We won’t comment on that, but it’s worth asking whether it impacted his place with the Clippers.
NBA TRADES, NEWS & RUMORS: Malcolm Brogdon, Boston Celtics & Los Angeles Clippers Updates
After all, the last time we saw Covington, he was a reliable 3-and-D that would crack any contender’s rotation. Last year, he could hardly see the floor for the Clippers. Should the Celtics invest in him?
Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
Sure. After all, the Celtics just lost Grant Williams. Covington would be a suitable replacement. This is a versatile defensive wing who thrives as a secondary defender. Covington’s floor spacing should get him on the floor in Boston as well.
All of this could also be said about Morris Sr. The Celtics will have a crowded frontcourt following this deal – one of these two players may not see the floor. Still, it’s nice to have options.
NBA TRADES, NEWS & RUMORS: Malcolm Brogdon, Boston Celtics & Los Angeles Clippers Updates
Meanwhile, this is the last year of Pritchard’s contract. There have been rumors that he wants a trade, and Boston probably won’t retain him next summer. They might as well move him while he’s got some value. Should the Clippers invest in him?
Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal
Yes. In fact, Pritchard is a sneakily good addition to this team. Is he a game-breaking presence? Not exactly. Still, Pritchard is solid. In fact, he’s one of the better floor-spacing point guards in the NBA.
Of course, he’s only an added bonus. The primary return here is Brogdon. When healthy, he’s exactly what the Clippers need. Yes, the health situation is concerning.

Still, the Clippers weren’t playing Covington anyway. With that in mind, Morris Sr. feels like a small price to pay for Brogdon. If he can get healthy, this will be a steal. If he can’t? That’s OK. Brogdon is only human.
