New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley wants a lucrative rookie-scale extension, according to NBA insider Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. If Quickley and the Knicks don’t agree to an extension by the October deadline, the combo guard would become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024.

Quickley appeared in 81 games for the Knicks last season. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 44.8% from the field, 37.0% from beyond the arc and 81.9% from the free-throw line. The Knicks won 47 games in the regular season and were the fifth seed in the 2023 Eastern Conference playoffs.

New York defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 2023 postseason in five games but lost to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games. Quickley averaged 9.0 points against the Cavaliers and Heat while shooting 34.8% overall and 24.3% from 3.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Immanuel Quickley & New York Knicks Updates

In 223 games with the Knicks, Quickley is averaging 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists. It will be interesting to see if New York signs the Maryland native to an extension or trades him for a star player.

The Knicks talked to the Los Angeles Clippers about a Paul George trade, but a deal wasn’t reached. New York has also been linked to James Harden, who has requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Knicks would consider an extension for Quickley around $20 million per year, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Scotto is reporting that New York could trade Quickley as part of a package to acquire a star player if the guard plays himself into a higher average annual salary of $20 million.
