Phoenix Suns small forward Kevin Durant said at CNBC and Boardroom’s inaugural Game Plan sports business conference in Los Angeles on July 25 that NBA commissioner Adam Silver smelled marijuana on him when the two had a meeting to discuss taking cannabis off the league’s banned substance list.

Durant admitted that several players in the NBA smoke marijuana.

Durant has invested in multiple cannabis-related companies through Thirty-Five Ventures alongside business partner Rich Kleiman, including Dutchie, Canopy Rivers and Weedmaps. The two-time NBA Finals MVP said, “I just enjoy the plant. It’s as simple as that.”

The Suns acquired Durant last season from the Brooklyn Nets. Durant averaged 26.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists in eight regular-season games with Phoenix while shooting 57.0% from the field, 53.7% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Kevin Durant, Adam Silver & Phoenix Suns Updates

Durant and the Suns beat the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs in five games. However, Phoenix lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals in six games. Durant finished the 2023 postseason with averages of 29.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 11 games versus the Clippers and Nuggets.

The Suns acquired three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards this summer. Phoenix now has a deadly Big 4 of Durant, Beal, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. Many pundits believe the Suns can win the NBA championship next season.
