Knicks Trade For Heat’s Tyler Herro In Proposal

Tyler Herro, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, NBA Trade Rumors

Do you know a star NBA player when you see one? Sure, some stars are obvious. Nikola Jokic is a star. LeBron James has been a star for a long time.

What about, say, Anfernee Simons? Does he qualify as a star? What about Kristaps Porzingis? What about Tyler Herro?

It’s a question that NBA front offices need to answer for themselves. For example, take the New York Knicks. We’ve been speculating that they could trade for a star for a long time. Would Herro meet their standard?

The Trade Proposal

Miami Heat Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, G/F Josh Hart, 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Tyler Herro

Meanwhile, there are different measures of stardom. How do you define an NBA star? Are you looking at name recognition or on-court production? After all, those are two vastly different things.

Albeit, they’re connected. There’s a reason that your grandmother knows who LeBron James is – or, if she doesn’t, she’s heard of Michael Jordan. They’re two of the most productive players in NBA history.

On the other hand, plenty of productive players fall by the wayside. Sometimes, less productive players are more well-known on account of their flashy personalities. With that in mind, it’s fair to question which kind of star Herro is. Should he be enough for the Knicks?

Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Well, it’s worth noting that the Knicks aren’t giving up a star-caliber package in return for Herro here. What are they giving up? A disgruntled player on an expiring deal, an excellent role player on a team-friendly one, and a single first-round pick. Is that a fair price to pay for Herro?

We think so. You can debate the value of Herro’s game. It’s fair to say that he’s a volume scorer with limited defense and playmaking. He’s still an outstanding scorer.

Herro’s ability to generate his own offense in the half-court will make the Knicks more dangerous. Meanwhile, with one of the best rim protectors in the NBA in Mitchell Robinson, they may be able to trade Hart’s defense for Herro’s point production. Should the Heat make the inverse trade-off?

Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal

There’s a reason you’re seeing Herro in trade proposals. The Heat may not need him. After all, this team just advanced to the NBA Finals without him. With that said, they’ve lost some of the key players that got them there. Max Struss and Gabe Vincent are both headed to new homes.

This deal aims to bolster Miami’s depth. Fournier has fallen out of New York’s rotation, but something tells us the sweet-shooting veteran would find a place in Miami’s system.

Still, Hart is the best player Miami is receiving here. He’s a versatile defender and an outstanding positional rebounder. Add in an unprotected first-round pick, and this deal could be enough for Miami to move off of Herro. No matter how big of a star he is – or isn’t.
