One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Clippers acquire Malcolm Brogdon from the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster trade.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed that the Clippers trade Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, a 2024 second-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to the Celtics for Brogdon.

“The Clippers seemingly covet an upgrade at point guard—they’ve also been linked to James Harden—and a healthy Brogdon could do the trick,” Buckley wrote. “He offers a wealth of experience and the ability to impact the game on or off the ball, making him a snug on-paper fit with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.”

The medical evaluation of Brogdon led to the Clippers pulling out of the three-team trade with the Washington Wizards and Celtics a few weeks ago. However, it appears Los Angeles still has its eyes on the re-signing NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

Brogdon has a partial tear in the tendon coming out of his right elbow that leads into his forearm. The guard, who wants to remain with the Celtics, is optimistic he won’t need offseason surgery, according to NBA insider Jared Weiss of The Athletic.

Brogdon won the Sixth Man of the Year Award last season for Boston. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 67 games while shooting 48.4% from the field, 44.4% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line.

The 2016-17 NBA Rookie of the Year with the Milwaukee Bucks, Brogdon signed a two-year, $85 million contract extension with the Indiana Pacers in October 2021. He’ll make $22.5 million next season.

James Harden has requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers and wants to get traded to the Clippers. If Los Angeles can’t acquire the 2017-18 NBA MVP, maybe it should try to trade for Brogdon again. Brogdon has career averages of 15.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists with the Bucks, Pacers and Celtics.
