How valuable is Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks? Some would say that he’s got tremendous value. To be sure, Young is one of the best playmakers in the NBA. It’s hard to put a price on that.
On the other hand, Young’s ball dominance can make him difficult for some players to thrive alongside. He’s also a notoriously poor defender. Young is one of the more difficult NBA players to evaluate.
At the same time – he’s one of the best playmakers in the NBA. If the Atlanta Hawks did make Young available this summer, surely, some team would be happy to take a chance on him. Here are three that we think should take a look at him.
Miami Heat
Of course, Trae Young isn’t the star point guard that the Heat are being linked to. Everyone’s expecting them to acquire Damian Lillard. Perhaps they will. On the other hand, that’s a complicated situation that offers no guarantees.
If the Heat strike out on Lillard, they could pivot. This team could still use a major upgrade at the point guard spot. Why not Young?

After all, the Heat have the defensive roster to protect Young. Meanwhile, he’d give their offense a tremendous boost. At the same time, Miami is known to value defensive players. If they pass on Young, someone else will be happy to trade for him.
Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are in an interesting position. This team has as much flexibility as any in the NBA. After all, they’ve got a unique mixture of young and older players on their roster. They’re roughly in the middle of the pack in terms of talent, but they’ve got enough draft capital to make a major move to push forward.
Could acquiring Young be that move? The Jazz could certainly use a point guard. Meanwhile, this team has plenty of pieces to complement a heliocentric playmaking hub.

If that’s the direction they choose. Last season, Will Hardy’s system put an emphasis on ball movement and motion. Perhaps the Jazz would decide that Young isn’t the right man to pilot their offense. Could an Eastern Conference contender feel differently?
Boston Celtics
For some time, Jaylen Brown was one of the hottest names in trade rumors. Once he qualified for the supermax, that heat died down.
Fair enough. After all, the Celtics can offer Brown a much larger deal than anybody else. Surely, he won’t force his way out of town at that cost. He may not. At the same time, there hasn’t been an extension yet. Could there be reservations on either side here?

We don’t know. If there are, the Celtics could look to trade Brown after all. Meanwhile, they’ve been missing a player like Young for a long time. He’s one of the best playmakers in the NBA: Flaws and all.
