One NBA writer is proposing that the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors make a blockbuster trade centered on OG Anunoby. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed that the Knicks trade Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes and three future draft picks to the Raptors for Anunoby.
The Knicks have been trying to acquire Anunoby for over a year, sources told NBA Analysis Network.
“To be sure, the Knicks still have the assets to aim higher than Anunoby,” Favale wrote. “But it needs combo wings with size. Anunoby is that—and so much more. Some will quibble over Grimes’ inclusion, but his spot in the rotation is already somewhat muddied by the addition of Donte DiVincenzo. Minutes will be harder to come by if he’s in town with Anunoby, DiVincenzo and RJ Barrett.”
New York could start Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, Anunoby, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson if this trade went through. The Knicks, who lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games, could reach the conference finals next season with Anunoby next to Brunson and Randle.
Anunoby signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension with Toronto in December 2020. He has career averages of 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists. The Indiana product won the 2019 championship with the Raptors over the Golden State Warriors in six games.

Toronto drafted Anunoby with the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 draft. The talented small forward averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season while shooting 47.6% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 83.8% from the free-throw line.
Anunoby can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024. He recently left Klutch Sports Group for CAA. All signs point toward the star swingman being the subject of multiple trade rumors since he’s a hot commodity.

It’s unclear if the Raptors are going to trade or keep Anunoby since the franchise is internally debating whether it should rebuild or still try to compete in the wake of Fred VanVleet leaving for the Houston Rockets in free agency, sources told NBA Analysis Network.
