Bradley Beal will enter the 2023-24 training camp as the Phoenix Suns’ projected starter at point guard, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Suns traded Chris Paul to the Washington Wizards in the Beal trade and sent Cam Payne to the San Antonio Spurs. Phoenix is expected to start Beal, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton. It’s unknown who the fifth starter will be.
Beal averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists for the Wizards last season. The three-time All-Star shot 50.6% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 84.2% from the free-throw line.
Beal waived his no-trade clause to get traded to the Suns. The Miami Heat also spoke to the Wizards about a Beal trade, but the Florida product wanted to play with Booker and Durant.

The 30-year-old Beal has career averages of 22.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Along with acquiring Beal and trading Payne, the Suns signed Eric Gordon, Yuta Watanabe, Chimezie Metu, Keita Bates-Diop, Bol Bol and Drew Eubanks and re-signed Damion Lee and Josh Okogie this summer.
Gordon and Bol are the two big names the Suns added. The former has career averages of 16.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists with the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets, while the latter has career averages of 6.3 points and 3.8 rebounds with the Denver Nuggets and Magic in 123 NBA games.

The Suns lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. Monty Williams was fired as head coach and replaced by Frank Vogel, who won the 2020 championship with the Los Angeles Lakers at the Walt Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida.
