Warriors Trade For Blazers’ Anfernee Simons In Proposal

Anfernee Simons, Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, NBA Trade Rumors

Sometimes, things just don’t work out. Relationships fail – both personal and professional. Nobody likes to see that happen. Unfortunately, it’s an inevitable part of life. The same happens in the NBA.

For example, look at the relationship between Jordan Poole and the Golden State Warriors. It fell apart. For one reason or another, the Warriors decided that Poole wasn’t the player for them.

Was it his archetype? Did the Warriors feel that having a young scoring guard on their roster was superfluous? Or, was it specifically Poole that they wanted to part with?

If so, could they target Anfernee Simons of the Portland Trail Blazers?

The Trade Proposal

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: G/F Gary Payton III, F Jonathan Kuminga, G/F Moses Moody, F Patrick Baldwin Jr., G Cory Joseph, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW)
Golden State Warriors Receive: G Anfernee Simons

With that said, it’s been difficult for young players to thrive in Golden State in general recently. That’s understandable. The Warriors are a modern dynasty. This team has entered the regular season with championship aspirations for a decade.

They’re weary of trusting young players. Of course, Poole earned their trust – for a time. It wasn’t long ago that he was expected to carry Steph Curry’s legacy.

It didn’t go that way. Now, Poole is a Washington Wizard. Meanwhile, Jonathan Kuminga has struggled to find his way in Golden State as well. Should the Warriors move him?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

Absolutely. Moving Kuminga is one benefit for the Warriors here. That’s not a knock on him. By all accounts, Kuminga would welcome a change. The Warriors should move him before they’re forced to and his trade value is reduced.

Of course, that’s not the main point here. That would be acquiring Simons. He’s got better shot selection than Poole, and has scored more efficiently in his career. He should be able to fit this team’s system as an elite sixth man.

Taking on his contract may be problematic. The Warriors’ books are already messy. They should make a huge win-now trade here, and sort those details out later. Should the Blazers move him?

Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal

If you follow the NBA closely, you know the Blazers could be making a bigger deal than this one this summer. Damian Lillard has requested a trade. In time, the Blazers will honor his request. Does that mean they have to trade Simons?

No. Simons is young enough to be part of a rebuild. If the Blazers are comfortable with Shaedon Sharpe at the 3, they could even see him as a good fit with their young core.

On the other hand, Portland would do better to start from scratch. Kuminga has a much higher ceiling than Simons, and this team can afford to lose for a couple of seasons as he develops. If it all works out, it’ll benefit them in the long run.
