If the Portland Trail Blazers trade Damian Lillard to the Miami Heat, they want Tyler Herro sent to a third team, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Lillard has requested a trade from the Blazers and wants to get traded to the Heat. Portland is not high on Herro and has no interest in acquiring him.
“For any trade with Miami, Portland would have the goal of moving Herro to a third team, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” Fischer wrote. “It seems the challenge for the Blazers with Herro is as much about Portland’s surplus of young combo guards, featuring lottery picks Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, plus the high-scoring Anfernee Simons, as it is about Herro’s long-term money.”
Herro has removed “Miami Heat guard” from his Twitter bio. The Kentucky product averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 93.4% from the free-throw line. He was third on the team in points per game, trailing only Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The 23-year-old Herro signed a four-year, $120 million rookie contract extension with the Heat in October 2022. The Milwaukee native has career averages of 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 242 games with Miami. He broke his hand in the first round of the 2023 playoffs versus the Milwaukee Bucks and never came back.
Herro has been telling people close to him that he expects to get traded to the Brooklyn Nets, according to Ethan J. Skolnick of 5 Reasons Sports. The Heat, Nets and Blazers could complete a three-team trade centered around Lillard.

Both Butler and Adebayo want the Heat to trade for Lillard, who averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season. Miami is 0-2 in the NBA Finals in the Butler-Adebayo era. The team is missing a superstar like Lillard.
The Heat lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 Finals in six games and fell to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Finals in five games.
