Miles Bridges is signing a $7.9 million qualifying offer with the Charlotte Hornets, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Bridges will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Bridges didn’t play at all this past season following a domestic violence arrest on June 27, 2022. The NBA conducted its own independent investigation of the Bridges allegations and announced in April that the Flint native would be suspended 30 games without pay.
The NBA determined 20 of those games were “already served,” so Bridges will miss the first 10 games of the 2023-24 season. The forward pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and pleaded no contest to a charge of domestic violence toward a spouse or other cohabitant in a plea agreement. Bridges served no jail time and was ordered to undergo domestic violence counseling and parenting classes while conducting 100 hours of community service.
Bridges has career averages of 13.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 47.3% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc and 80.9% from the free-throw line. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2018 draft.

The Hornets drafted Brandon Miller with the second overall pick in the 2023 draft. LaMelo Ball called Miller after Charlotte made the pick. The Hornets believe Ball and Miller can help the franchise get back to the playoffs.
Ball signed a five-year contract extension with the Hornets on July 1. The extension is worth up to $260 million. Ball would have become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024 if he and the Hornets didn’t agree to an extension.

The Hornets drafted Ball with the third overall pick in the 2020 draft. The younger brother of Lonzo Ball has career averages of 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists. He made the All-Star team in 2022 and won the 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Award.
It will be fascinating to see how many games the Hornets win next season. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2016.
