Victor Wembanyama had dinner with San Antonio Spurs legends Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili and Sean Elliott on June 23. The new face of the Spurs franchise feels very comfortable in San Antonio as he embarks on a new journey in America and as an NBA player.
“Probably in a couple hours, I learned more about the NBA than my whole life before that,” Wembanyama said at a news conference at AT&T Center on June 24. “It’s so comforting to see these people who are so important to the city of San Antonio and the franchise are such great people and generous. They genuinely wanted to share their experience. I feel like they’ve already started to take great care of me. It’s so important to be in a position where it’s so comfortable.”
The Spurs drafted Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the 2023 draft. The 19-year-old admitted to reporters that the last few days have been tiring for him.

However, the French star is very appreciative of how everyone in San Antonio has welcomed him and his family and made them feel at home.
“The last 72 hours have been really tiring,” Wembanyama said. “But I’m really enjoying the moment. Everybody is doing a perfect job around me. Everybody is doing their best. I have my family and my people around me who love me. Everywhere I’ve been I’ve been welcomed warmly. It’s really comfortable. I’m really happy to be in this position.”
It’s unknown how many games Wembanyama will play in Summer League since he just finished a long season in France. The last thing the Spurs want to see is their new superstar suffer a serious injury.

San Antonio won five championships with Duncan and two rings with Robinson. Both Duncan and Robinson were No. 1 overall picks like Wembanyama. We’ll see if the Spurs can win a title or two with Victor.
